When planning the décor for a Mitzvah I love creating an environment rather than a specific theme!

It is so important to show a reflection of the guest of honor’s personality but also focus on the type of party the client wants to have!

Basketball has been done a thousand times, lounges have been a huge trend over the last few years..but it is all about the application.

Why not combine basketball with a lounge, or if basketball is the main focus..step out of the box ..just a bit ..and use the colors and textures to emulate basketball..but not have it “in your face!”

Subtle touches can be creative and fun and everyone feels like they have done something unique…while the guest of honor has their dream “theme”.

Restaurants are a wonderful inspiration for décor…recreate it for the party..even serve the food you love to order.

Jump out of the box and head over to your local hardware or paint store and pick up color sample strips of paint that coordinate with your event’s décor. Use these paint chips to create…

PLACE CARDS. Use digital calligraphy, stickers or your own handwriting to personalize each color swatch with each of your guests’ names. These “paint swatch placecards” can be placed into a napkin fold or laid across a charger plate – a colorful addition to any table!

SAVE THE DATES. Send paint chips in your event colors with your event information written on the back. An adorable and inexpensive save the date idea.

DECOR. If celebrity event designer David Stark can create event decor from paint swatches, the why can’t you. Look at what a little creativity and a thousand paint swatches can create.

There are times when the religious service for your Mitzvah cannot be at a traditional temple or synagogue.

Therefore, you need to create the same ambiance of being in a temple where you and your family will not feel any difference by not being in a “religious” location.

I feel it is extremely important to create this familiarity for my clients when the Mitzvah service needs to be at another venue besides a synagogue.

After speaking to the officiant , I set up exactly what is needed for the service, whether it is a small table for a Havdalah service, the table at the exact height needed for the Torah to be read from, to a sound system with the correct number of microphones or podiums. Then of course any religious artifacts needed for the service are incorporated.

The décor can be designed simply with pipe and drape to create a backdrop, or creating a backdrop that has religious significance. ..it can be an abstract Tree or Life, a rich tapestry, Eternal Flame, Ten Commandments… Specialty lighting and the use of candles can add warmth to the room as well.

Your family should feel comfortable with this type of situation and focus on the significance of the Mitzvah service and not the location!
